Winter Star Party Winning Image

03/04/2014 |

I'm very happy to announce that my image of the Whale and Hockey Stick galaxies (see Galaxies album) won first place in this years Winter Star Party Astrophotography contest in the Deep Sky category!

The Winter Star Party is my favorite event of the year, and the only time I get to see some of my astro-imaging friends. Great fun, food, and imaging!

I'm pleased to find that my narrow band North American/Pelican Nebula image is in the readers gallery in the January 2014 issue of Sky & Telescope! Woot!

Veloce Review

08/08/2012 |

I'm very excited that my review of the Officina Stellare Veloce RH-200 is now out in the latest issue of Astronomy Technology Today (July-August 2012). It's really my favorite astro mag as it focuses mostly on gear for the more established amatures (no articles on "wow, so like dude, what's a galaxy really MADE of?). They ( have a digital subscription option too. I've contributed a few times now, so I'm a bit biased... but bias doesn't mean your wrong... it just makes being right more fun ;-)

Oh, and my pictures made the cover too! That's a first for me too!

Welcome to the Evening Show

05/27/2012 |

I've been an aspiring Astrophotographer for many years. My first lunar images were taken with a Canon SLR and I had the film developed at WalMart. That was in the late 1990's. Since then, I've been through a long list of camera's, telescopes, and mounts, and finally dipped my toe in trying to shoot something other than the moon.

I've been sharing my images only with freinds and family, and mostly through Facebook, for which I have this weird philosophy... I need to actually have met you before I'll add you on Facebook. Sorry. I get asked a lot though "Where's your web site"? I looked around, consiered flicker and even some dedicated astrophoto hosting sites, but eventually decided to just do my own. Besides, I have this cool domain name I've been sitting on for over a decade. Time to do something with it!

And so here you are. Welcome to the Evening Show. At least my take on it!

Clear Skies!
