Milky Way over Tortuga

Lately I've been posting a lot of Milky Way Images... it's all I can do in the summer it seems. This image was taken during a less than two hour interval of clear skies at the Dry Tortugas National Park. You can never guess the weather, so we just got unlucky when we went, but when it's clear, it's DARK! My family was really enjoying the dark skies and the "Evening Show" if you will.

The Dry Tortugas is probably one of the darkest skies available at any National Park. 70 miles west of Key West you have to take a boat or seaplane to get here. If you don't mind "primitive" camping it's also a very nice place to camp. I am already plotting a return over the Winter months!

This was two minutes at ISO 800 on a Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer. Canon T3i (modified), and a Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 lens. I also shot this at ISO 1600 for one minute. More light is better than higher ISO... I'm telling you.
